Note biografiche: Piero Maestrini received the M.E. degree in electronic engineering from the University of Pisa, Italy, in 1962, and the “Libera Docenza” in computer engineering in 1971. From 1962 to 1981 he was with the Istituto di Elaborazione dell'Informazione, National Research Council, Pisa, Italy. From 1981 to 2006 he was a full professor of the Department of Computer Science, University of Pisa, Pisa, Italy, where he currently holds a position of research associate. He was the Dean of the Faculty of Science of the University of Pisa (1987–90), the director of the Istituto di Elaborazione dell'Informazione of the National Research Council (1995–2002) and the director of the Istituto di Scienze e Tecnologie dell'Informazione, National Research Council, Pisa, Italy (2002–06). His research interests span computer architecture, algorithm design and evaluation, fault–tolerant computing, wireless networks, and coding theory.
