Even though metadata on apps, including user reviews, have been investigated by a number of researchers and analytics companies, it still remains a dilemma today to determine what causes negative or positive ratings in the app stores, especially for more than just a small number of reviews. This is challenging due to the large data volume, because app stores do not provide systematic analysis tools themselves, and other solutions often lack the level of detail necessary to create valuable insights tailored to the app segment of interest. Developers of individual apps might still manage to manually check their users’ reviews, but this doesn’t work when planning a new app or when one’s interests lie in a larger set of apps.
