Teaching students about the relationship between Sardinia and Catalonia, with a focus on the historical heritage, may lead to a change in the students' process of identity selfawareness. History can be considered the most genuine expression of identity. When students learn history, it helps to in still in them a sense of civic responsibility – at the personal, social, and cultural levels –. This is based on the respect for and conservation of their surroundings and the past, as well as the capacity to take an active and responsible role in the conservation, knowledge, and divulgation of the historical and cultural singularities of their own land.
